We may be guilty of not trying. Well, not all of us but some of us may be guilty of just hoping that what’s being done is right. That right may even be left of center depending on your politics. There are however, some among us that are trying to create change. Non-partisan change based on real needs and thoughtful consideration. The problem is that most of us feel we have no voice. Where is our forum to be heard? We could argue that contacting your State Senator or Congressman will help and we’re not saying it won’t. However, like most efforts to accomplish anything, it must be approached from many sides. It’s even better when the effort represents your point of view. On the 31st of March at the Metropolitan Club in New York City our Chairman and CEO, DR Rawson was asked by Ziad Abdelnour the President and CEO of Blackhawk Partners, LLC to attend what would be the inaugural meeting of The Financial Policy Forum. It’s designed to be a non-political educational approach combined with a non-partisan political action committee (PAC) that will attempt to make known the views of those on Wall Street and others of us within the financial community. It’s also so that like-minded friends and colleagues may meet and confer with Congressmen, Senators, and other power brokers who are determining the fate of the US financial services industry today. The hope is that it will enable us all to have a much more powerful voice in the debate about government policy for the financial sector. Keynote Speakers were Congressman Scott Garrett (R-NJ) and Michael Lewitt; President & CEO of Harch Capital Management This very first meeting featured Congressman Scott Garrett Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government-Sponsored Enterprises for the House Financial Services Committee for the 111th Congress. Also addressing the group was Mr. Michael Lewitt, President and CEO of Hach Capital Management and the author of The Death of Capital. Congressman Garrett cited the need to communicate what’s needed to both sides of the isle and fielded a few questions about current topics under consideration. Mr. Lewitt’s discussion with the seventy or so attending, was centered on particular points of financial policy and regulations that in his opinion should be changed. The points of view he shared brought many questions. At the outset of his remarks he hoped that many questions would follow. You might be surprised to learn that not everyone is in agreement with what the government wants to legislate or the way in which it wants to govern the financial markets. Some would say too much, some say too far, some not far enough. Still, the point here is that everyone will want to and should have a forum from which to have their views expressed. If you live in the New York area, you may want to contact Ziad Abdelnour with Blackhawk Partners, LLC and ask how you can be heard and or contribute to this effort.
